State Soil Event

Future farmers from across the state are gearing up for the 45th Annual Louisiana FFA Soil Judging Career Development Event (CDE) taking place Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the Southern University M. A. Edmond Livestock Arena.

The Soil Judging CDE is an educational event designed to help students learn about and evaluate the properties and uses of soils collected in the state. Students learn the differences in soils and their capabilities, treatments to obtain production, and methods to conserve and improve soil.

This field experience in soil judging, helps students identify characteristics that are evaluated in order to allow logical decision to be made. This facilitates better decisions regarding the best use and management of our soil resources.

M.A. Edmond Arena is located on the Southern University Experimental Farm along Scenic Highway (U.S. Highway 61) north of Southern's main campus (see attached directions). Registration will begin at 8 AM with opening ceremonies beginning at 9 AM.

Buses will be available to transport students to and from sites. Each chapter will be assessed $15.00 ($15.00 for Blue and $15.00 for Gold Chapter, if appropriate) to defray the cost of these buses and event expenses. Please submit the fee with registration forms and make the check payable to Louisiana FFA Association.
