“Sowing Seeds of Success” during the annual Family and Youth Expo 2005

Self-esteem workshops, hands on demonstrations, and interactive seminars– these are just a few of the activities held during the Southern University Ag Center’s annual Family and Youth Expo 2005.

This year's theme, “Sowing Seeds for Success,” reflects the purpose of the Family and Youth Expo, encouraging students to always strive to be the best and inspiring them for future success. Motivational speaker, Roderick Glover, addressed the participants during the General Assembly, providing knowledge and insight on ways of achieving success.

This two-day educational event, held June 17-18, featured many exciting exhibits and tours, and also allowed for interaction amongst the students during the Luau/cookout and talent show. Participants had the opportunity to compete in the a public speaking and illustrated talk competition, along with a Quiz bowl competition. The Quiz Bowl featured challenging questions ranging from the history of Southern University to current events. Teams consisted of youth from seven parishes. The St. Landry Parish team took the winning spot for the third year in a row.

At the conclusion of the Family and Youth Expo, an awards program was held, where the participants and winners of each competition were awarded with certificates and trophies.
